Ethics: the importance of context working internationally

One of the thorny issues in PR has always been whether our society’s values translate to other parts of the world. What we consider unethical may well be normal in another country. Should we rethink our assumptions about our behaviours and business etiquette when faced with regimes very different from our own? How useful are our codes of conduct in other countries? Do some fundamental ethical values cross cultures?
We shall be discussing these and other global ethical questions at this event with a highly experienced panel of speakers.

Sophie Masipa, Founder and CEO of Kgommuu International @SophieMasipa
Sophie is Founder of Kgommu International, which develops and invests in infrastructure projects across the continent. In addition she is Southern and East Africa Associate for the World Ocean Council. In 2018, Sophie was named one of the Top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent under 40 in the Diaspora under the Governance and Politics Category. In 2019, she was named a Crans Montana Forum New Leader for Tomorrow.
Maher Nasser, Director of Outreach Division in UN’s Department of Global Communications @MaherNasserUN
Maher Nasser has over 33 years of work experience in the United Nations System during which he has worked in Gaza, Jerusalem, Amman, Vienna, Cairo and New York. He is currently the Director of Outreach Division in the United Nations Department of Global Communications and the Commissioner-General of the United Nations at Expo 2020 in Dubai.
Clare Parsons, Chair and Co-Founder of Lansons @ClareParsons_
Clare is Founder and Chair of strategic reputation management consultancy Lansons. Leading the agency’s international business, she is on the Global Board of PROI Worldwide, was past Global Chair (2018-20). She also currently serves on the advisory board of everywoman, and is founding co-chair of charity HighTide’s new Advisory Council. Clare was recognised with the Stephen Tallent Award by the CIPR and is a Fellow. She was awarded The Holmes Report SABRE Award – Outstanding Individual Achievement (2020), and was featured as a Real Business Magazine’s Top 100 Women UK Entrepreneurs alumni.

Crispin has worked in more than forty countries leading communications for global not-for-profits and international organizations. He began his career as a resident BBC correspondent in the Middle East and South Asia. Since then, Crispin has led comms for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, the first international terrorism tribunal, and for WorldSkills a global not-for-profit which promotes vocational careers globally. He has Masters degrees from King’s College, London and the University of St Andrews.
