What is CPD?
CPD is a structured way to track your learning and development throughout the year.
It turns everyday learning activity, from training and events to reading, mentoring and volunteering, into recognised professional progress.
MyCPD is the industry’s leading CPD scheme, giving you a simple, trusted and unrivalled way to track, manage and demonstrate your development.
Why cpd matters
CPD isn’t just a requirement. It’s your career advantage.
- Strengthen your credibility and professional reputation
- Stay ahead in a fast-changing industry
- Demonstrate your commitment to professional standards
- Access the pathway to CIPR Accreditation and Chartered status
how CPD works
The CPD cycle runs from 1 April to 31 March.
To complete CPD each year, you need to log:
- 60 CPD points in total
- At least 5 points for Ethics activities
- At least 5 points for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) activities
You’ll log your CPD across two streams:
- Stream 1: Developing yourself
- Stream 2: Supporting others
How many points you log in each depends on your CPD status:
- Starting out: 40 points in Stream 1 (including 5 Ethics and 5 EDI)
- Accredited: 20 points in Stream 1 (including 5 Ethics and 5 EDI)
- Chartered/Fellow: 5 Ethics and 5 EDI points required
All remaining points can be across either or both streams.
Equity, diversity and inclusion: now compulsory
From 1 April 2026, CIPR members will log a minimum of five CPD points in EDI as part of their annual CPD cycle.
EDI underpins effective public relations and communications practice. From strategy and campaigns to stakeholder engagement and crisis response, your ability to understand and reflect the audiences you communicate with is central to delivering work that is ethical, effective and impactful.
You can achieve your 5 EDI points through a wide range of learning activities, including content across themes such as:
- Understanding equity, diversity and inclusion
- Communicating inclusively
- Understanding bias, behaviour and culture
- Building inclusive organisations and practices
- Perspectives and lived experience
