Professional Standards Opportunities

We are seeking CIPR members and lay members to join our Professional Standards pool, helping uphold integrity, fairness and accountability across the profession.

Available Roles

Professional Standards Panel (PSP) Member
CIPR members (MCIPR/FCIPR): volunteer role with expenses paid 
Lay members: day rate and expenses paid 

Appeals Panel Member
CIPR members (FCIPR/Hon FCIPR): volunteer role with expenses paid 
Lay members: day rate and expenses paid 

Arbiter
CIPR members only (MCIPR/FCIPR): volunteer role with expenses paid 

About the Roles
The CIPR investigates complaints relating to potential breaches of the Code of Conduct. Complaints are reviewed independently and fairly through the Professional Standards Panel, Appeals Panel and Arbiter process.

Training and Support
All volunteers receive:
Annual training 
Quarterly updates on enquiries and complaints 
20 CPD points 
Reimbursement of reasonable expenses

Group volunteer opportunities

CIPR Groups represent the views and needs of members across the UK, overseas and in wide ranging industry sectors and disciplines. Many groups appoint their committees at their AGM's in September and October, so it's worth getting in touch with our Groups a few months in advance if you're keen to serve on a committee. However, you are welcome to express your interest at anytime!

National and Regional Groups

CIPR South West Group
Are you ready to raise your profile and support the PR and communications community across the South West? CIPR South West is currently recruiting for two volunteer roles: County Event & Network Coordinators (Bristol, Somerset, Swindon & Devon) and Content Coordinator (South West region-wide). Both roles offer the opportunity to: build your professional profile, expand your network across the region, gain 20 CPD points annually, and develop valuable leadership and strategic skills. Time commitment is minimal (approximately 1–1.5 hours per week), with a significant opportunity to grow your influence within the communications profession.  CIPR East Anglia Group

CIPR East Anglia brings together professionals from across the region to share learning, insight and support. We are looking for a new digital committee member to support our social media and monthly regional newsletter. You will be part of an amazing volunteer committee and will help share our events, CIPR-wide events, and more. CIPR North West Group

Are you passionate about public relations and communications? Whether you’re just starting your career or a seasoned professional, our committee is looking for new volunteers to help us support and grow our regional network. Covering a diverse area from Cumbria to North Wales and every town and city in between, we aim to deliver value to PR and communications professionals across the North West. By joining the committee, you’ll play an active role in shaping the future of the profession in our region. It’s a great opportunity to build your personal network, share your expertise, and gain valuable experience. Sectoral Groups

CIPR Defence and Security Network
We are looking for volunteers to join a new Defence and Security committee to help shape the first 12 months and beyond. Specifically, we would like the committee to include (but not limited to) the following:

Defence industry representative
Security industry representative
UK armed forces representative
UK Government communications representative
Early career representative (industry or armed forces)
EDI Champion (industry or armed forces)
Secretary (industry or armed forces)

If you would like to join the committee, please complete the expression of interest form at the bottom of this page, letting us know which position/s you are interested in, along with no more than 50 words telling us why. 

We are looking for good mix of experience (in-house or agency) and representation from all tiers of the supply chain.

 

 Education and Skills

We are keen to recruit more people onto the Education & Skills committee. We are a friendly bunch with a diverse range of talents. Anyone who can make a contribution is welcome, but we are particularly keen to see people from diverse backgrounds, in terms of age, education, ethnicity, neurodiversity and experience. We are particularly looking for a secretary who can host monthly meetings on Zoom or Teams along with anyone with a good network of contacts in the education and skills sector. If you would like to be on the committee please complete the expression of interest form at the bottom of the page.

 

Sports Network

The Sports Network are looking for new volunteers to join the committee. The committee plan to meet virtually on a regular basis, engage with CIPR members via email and social media, and coordinate events of interest. If you have experience or keen interest in the sports industry and a few hours a week to spare, Chair David Alexander would love to hear from you. Local Public Services

The group are looking for a creative communicator to:
Manage social channels
Develop a content calendar
Create social content including visuals
Produce a monthly newsletter

You will have a team of senior communicators to organise. In return you get a grateful network of PR people, a great chance to build a portfolio for your CV and training opportunities. STEM Group

The CIPR STEM Group is a dynamic community dedicated to strengthening communications across Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. We connect PR professionals, educators, and industry experts to promote best practices, celebrate innovation, and support the growth of STEM-focused communications. We’re currently looking for enthusiastic individuals to fill key roles, including:
Ambassadors: Represent one of the four pillars—Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics—and help champion the group’s initiatives.
Committee Members: Help guide the Group’s strategy, events, and campaigns to ensure we deliver value to the STEM and PR communities.
Event Organisers: Support the planning and delivery of in-person and virtual events that inspire, educate, and connect members.
Content Creators: Develop engaging content, including articles, social posts, and case studies, to amplify the impact of STEM communications.
Ideas Originators: If you have an idea for an event, visit or anything else, but don’t have the time to implement it, let us know and we’ll look to build a team around it.
