The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25 May 2018 with the aim of harmonising data privacy laws across Europe in order to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy. The regulations reshape the way organisations across the region approach data privacy. In the UK, these regulations are being enforced by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and will form part of UK law following Brexit. GDPR goes beyond the UK Data Protection Act 1998 and will change the way data is captured, stored and used as well as the way this is communicated.
